Okay so as i told earlier ......i'm sharing a healthy recipe made of Banana Stem..which i think probably most of you might have never had ...but gotta say this is a 100% healthy recipe...now why would say healthy it's because the main ingredient that i've used here that is,Banana stem called as Vazhapindi in Kerala,is actually rich in fiber content.it also improves bowl movement and act as good laxative....also it helps to eliminate and treat Kidney stones....and removes toxins from the body...okay ladies might like this point what i'm telling...a Banana stem also helps to cool the body and is good for weight loss....phew...that's too much of good facts right!!
My Mom mostly prepares this dish for Lunch ....And we use to have it with red rice.but i like my Uncle's version,it's because he make it a little more spicier than my Grandma's and Mom's version.i'm thinking of making it one day and will hope to give it a twist ..but the one i'm sharing here with you is my Mom's version ...
Banana Stem Thoran [My Mom's Version]:
Ingredients
Banana stem (Vazhapindi) - 1 center piece
Grated cocunut - 1/4 of a cocunut
Garlic pods - 6 nos
Chilly powder - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves - 1
Salt - As Required
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Coconut oil [Refined oil will also work]- 1/2 tsp
Peel off the outer layer of fiber from the Banana stem and chop it into fine pieces. Wash thoroughly and keep aside. Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds and fry curry leaves and stir. Add the chopped 'Banana stem pieces, turmeric, salt and chilli powder. Cook the above keeping it covered
Grind together the grated coconut and garlic. Add it to the cooked mixture and cook furthur. When the 'Banana stem' is well cooked, put off the flame and sprinkle coconut oil over the dish and mix. Keep aside for a while with lid closed, before serving.
I'm already trying to give it a twist with my style..a Banana stem soup is what i'm thinking of....but really it's a great recipe to try out ...as it's healthy ....hope you'll like it as well as try it...and stay healthy as well .take care!!
